It’s quite a story, as the New York Post outlined today. It’s called the “People’s Charter,” because sounding Soviet doesn’t bother them, and it “calls for free public health care, a jobs program for 16 million people, retroactive hazard pay for essential workers and the reallocation of policing resources to education and other services.” So defunding the police, of course, along with universal free healthcare (lol “free”) and basically any other commie thing you can dream up.
It also calls for the cancellation of student debt, a $15 minimum wage and promotes giving the public an ownership stake in companies that receive bailouts. Eight members of Congress — including AOC and Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) — are backing the program. Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), one of the liberal policy agenda’s backers, said it will serve as the legislative blueprint for what House progressives would push during a Biden administration, Fox News reported. “The aim is a clear agenda that progressives in the House will advance focuses on these big items,” Khanna told the network.
“We will push for Medicare-for-all during the pandemic. We will push for the creation of millions of good jobs in communities left behind. And we will advance a bold vision to tackle climate change and have a livable planet, which is the aspiration of the Green New Deal,” said Khanna. “We’re going to beat Donald Trump on Nov. 3, and then we’re going to organize to make the vision outlined in the People’s Charter a reality.” That’s the future that people like Steve Schmidt and the Lincoln Project want and are working for.
