Leftist reporters openly celebrate LA Times columnist who hates balanced news coverage

Neutral reporting, or what used to be known as journalism, should be completely done away with, according to Los Angeles Times opinion columnist Jackie Calmes – and for holding this opinion, Calmes is being celebrated by her fellow far-left media workers. In an Oct. 15 op-ed, Calmes whined about the "journalist pressure" that she and other far-left writers face when reporting on the news of the day. In her view, having to report things fairly is, well, unfair, and the journalistic landscape needs to be completely reshaped to reflect what she describes as "the new truth." Ever since the Watergate scandal, Calmes contends, it has become clear that biased reporting is the only way forward – and biased, of course, in favor of Democrats only. "Now, when reporters or pundits use the words 'both sides' in regard to some political problem, I stop reading or listening," Calmes admits, championing her partisanship like some kind of virtue. As a congressional reporter amid Newt Gingrich's "Republican revolution," Calmes learned back then that she does not prefer to see anything balanced in the media. What she wants instead is to have her views propped up as the only valid ones, and everyone else's ignored or denigrated. "One party – his – was demonstrably more responsible for the nasty divisiveness, government gridlock and norm-busting, yet journalistic pressure to produce seemingly 'balanced' stories – pressure both ingrained and imposed by editors – prevented reporters from sufficiently reflecting the new truth," Calmes complains about honest, balanced reporting.

"Democracy is literally at stake" if journalists report unbiased news, Calmes insists

Calmes is in good company at the Times, which seems to only employ other far-left ideologues such as herself. Take Harry Litman, for example, a Bill Clinton appointee who back in the spring tweeted in celebration at the idea of Wuhan coronavirus (Covid-19) "vaccine" passports. "Vaccine passports are a good idea," Litman tweeted. "Among other things, it will single out the still large contingent of people who refuse vaccines, who will be foreclosed from doing a lot of things their peers can do. That should help break the resistance down." Had Litman offered a more balanced view of the situation, pointing out that vaccine passports are an unconstitutional violation of human sovereignty and the right to choose one's own health protocols, he probably would have gotten an earful from the likes of Calmes. You see, people like Litman and Calmes can only tolerate their own viewpoints, even when those viewpoints infringe upon the rights of others. For Litman, that means forcing others to receive injections against their wishes. For Calmes, it means silencing the truth and only publishing one-sided "news" from a slanted perspective. Anything neutral or fair to both sides is a threat to "democracy," Calmes claims. "Democracy is literally at stake," she writes – "literally" being one of the most overused words in the leftist lexicon, by the way. "This is a Republican Party that is not serious about governing or addressing the nation's actual problems, as opposed to faux ones like critical race theory," she goes on to criticize. Based on Calmes' caricature of the entire Republican Party, there is no way in her mind that the Democrat Party can work alongside Republicans to get anything done because to even attempt such would be an exercise in futility. "Democrats can't be expected to deal with these guys like they're on the level," Calmes contends. "Nor should journalists cover them as if they are." Well that settles that, for Calmes anyway. For everyone else who still wants the full story, they are going to have to look elsewhere far outside the echo chamber of the Los Angeles Times.
