The state of Florida
held a roundtable discussion that strongly criticized Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines and lockdown mandates for children. The event also marked the Sunshine State formally announcing its recommendation against COVID-19 vaccines for children.
The roundtable titled "The Curtain Close on COVID Theater"
was held last March 7 at the city of West Palm Beach. Gov. Ron DeSantis, who organized the roundtable, was present alongside Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo. Several doctors who have spoken out against the medical establishment during the pandemic joined the two Florida officials.
"Over the past two years, the data has shown us what works and what doesn't work. It is long past time to stop the COVID theater. In Florida, we told the truth, we let the data drive our response and we let Floridians make decisions for themselves and their children. As a result, Florida is in a better spot than states who used fearmongering and mandates," said the governor.
Ladapo criticized the lockdown policies put in place by some states to curb COVID-19 cases. "I still remember very clearly when these people – including a lot of people with a lot of degrees – [were] telling us, '15 days to stop the spread.' These people had no idea what they were talking about," he said.
The top health official for Florida added that those in power want Americans "to forget that their choices were the wrong choices that basically led to no appreciable benefit." Ladapo emphasized that those responsible should not be allowed to go scot-free, warning that "it can happen again" if people fail to hold them accountable.
The surgeon general announced at the close of the event: "The
Florida Department of Health is going to be the first to officially recommend against the COVID-19 vaccines for healthy children. We're kind of scraping at the bottom of the barrel, particularly with healthy kids, in terms of actually being able to quantify with any accuracy and any confidence the even potential of benefit." Ladapo officially issued his recommendations on the COVID-19 vaccines for children the following day.
"Based on currently available data, healthy children aged five to 17 may not benefit from receiving the currently available COVID-19 vaccine. Healthy children with no significant underlying health conditions under 16 years old are at little to no risk of severe illness complications from COVID-19. For adolescents 16 to 17 years of age, the risk of myocarditis [heart muscle inflammation] due to the COVID-19 vaccines may outweigh the benefits."
Doctors at the roundtable unanimously denounce lockdowns
Several medical professionals who participated in the roundtable were vocal in criticizing COVID-19 lockdowns.
Stanford University Medical School's Dr. Jay Bhattacharya described them as "an enormous catastrophic mistake that should never be repeated."
"When we think about lockdowns, we should recoil with horror. [The] policies we followed have violated not just medical ethics, but also crushed the ability for scientists to discuss openly with each other facts and evidence," he lamented.
Epidemiologist Sunetra Gupta of the
University of Oxford, meanwhile, criticized much of the "unnecessary" reactions to the pandemic. "We inverted the precautionary principle 'Do not cause harm' by doing the one thing we knew that would cause harm. Now, we watch the devastation," she said.
University of Maryland School of Medicine epidemiologist Christopher D'Adamo pointed out how the lockdowns made Americans' health worse. Healthy lifestyle practices such as engaging in regular exercise, having enough sleep and eating a proper diet that normally keep the immune system strong had been impacted by the lockdown mandates. He added that the lack of movement "likely contributed to the increases in body mass index (BMI) and obesity, [alongside] a doubling of the increased rate of BMI" during the pandemic.
D'Adamo also cited the
effect of lockdowns on school children. "On the physical side, we've seen [that] when you're out of school, you're not getting recess; you're not getting physical education; you're not getting sports, dance [or] just general movement from class to class." He added that the social isolation stemming from lockdowns also contributed to mental issues in children, resulting in "anxiety, depression [and] stress."
