NYC Mayor Adams: OVER HALF of bused illegals avoid the Big Apple for fear of CRIME

New York City (NYC) Mayor Eric Adams admitted that more than half of illegal immigrants transported by bus avoid the Big Apple as they fear rampant crime there. The Democratic mayor made this admission during an Aug. 7 press conference, where he welcomed a busload of illegal aliens transported from Texas. Two days earlier, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced his plan to send illegals that enter the U.S. through the Lone Star State's border to NYC – a so-called sanctuary city. When the bus from Texas arrived at the Port Authority Bus Terminal, it only carried less than half of its 40 passengers as most of the illegal aliens disembarked before reaching the Big Apple. "We were led to believe about 40 people should have been on that bus, [but] only 14 got off," a shocked Adams remarked. "Because of the fear that something was going to happen to them if they came to this location, people got off earlier. We are concerned about that, because we don't want people being dropped off [just] anywhere." As for the 14 illegals, they were put into cabs and taken away to the city's already-overburdened shelters. This group joined the initial 50 migrants that arrived on the first NYC-bound bus on Aug. 5 – bringing the total number to 64 as of writing. A spokeswoman for Adams' office later clarified that the mayor did not refer to crime statistics in his comments during the press conference. However, she did not offer an alternative explanation as to why migrants may have feared disembarking at the city. According to figures released by the New York City Police Department, the Big Apple has been suffering from an almost 40 percent spike in crime. It also found that hate crimes have increased by 13.3 percent and transit crimes – those committed on public transportation – have risen by 53 percent compared to the same period last year.

Adams calls TX, AZ governors "cowards" for sending illegals to DC

The waves of bused migrants stemmed from the Biden administration's inaction toward border security. Abbott first announced his plans to transport illegal aliens to Washington, D.C. back in April 2022. The Grand Canyon State followed suit, with Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey announcing an initial busload of migrants bound to the federal capital in May 2022. During a July 2021 press conference, Adams called the Republican governors "cowards" for busing illegals to Washington, D.C. and insinuated that they lied about not sending migrants to NYC. "Our country is [the land] of the free and [the home] of the brave. We do not become cowards and send people away who are looking for help," said the NYC mayor. "They sent people out of their state. People who are seeking refuge in our country – they sent them away." Even from Texas, they came from somewhere. And so, they should not have sent people away that [were] seeking refuge." According to Adams, the GOP governors sent the illegal aliens to the federal capital "so they could do a layover and then come to [NYC]." He added: "They were wrong. They ended up here because they didn't get the support there." However, a spokesperson for the Lone Star State's governor pointed out that the Biden administration – not Texas – is to blame for the influx of illegal immigrants in the Big Apple. "Mayor Adams should check with President [Joe] Biden if his administration is the one dumping migrants in his city, as they've been doing to Texas border towns for months,” said Renae Eze, press secretary and senior communications advisor for Abbott.
