Riley Gaines, a former National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) swimmer, slammed a San Francisco State University (SFSU) official for suggesting that transgender activists protested "peacefully" at the event where she was physically attacked after giving a speech on "Saving Women's Sports." The SFSU email signed by Dr. Jamillah Moore, vice president for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management, read: "Thank you to our students who participated peacefully in Thursday evening's event. It took tremendous bravery to stand in a challenging space." Moore added she was proud of the moments when they "listened and asked insightful questions" and that the students demonstrated the value of free speech and the right to protest peacefully. She ended the letter with equity and community inclusion, psychological services and the Dean of Students office listed as supporting resources. "I had to reread that to make sure that they actually used the word peaceful," said Gaines, who was held hostage for three hours after the violent assault following her speech. According to the Epoch Times, protesters gathered in the hallway outside the room, chanting: "Trans rights are human rights. It's time to fight." "These 'peaceful' protesters stormed into the classroom where I was explaining why sex-protected sports are necessary for fairness and safety and ambushed me," Gaines said. "They turned the lights off and came in with full force, physically and verbally assaulting me." Gaines was struck twice on the shoulder and once on the face. Through the flickering lights, Gaines was able to make out that the assaulter was a man who was dressed in women's clothing. In one of the videos shared by Gaines, a protester exclaimed: "If she didn't want the smoke, she shouldn't have come here. You need to go in there and tell her that." She missed her flight home because it was not safe to leave. Protesters also demanded money from the swimmer. "Yet they consider me and my message violent? We must have different definitions of peaceful," Gaines lamented. Meanwhile, former Olympic gold medal-winning decathlete Caitlyn Jenner replied to one of Gaines' tweets with: "Never back down! Never give up! I am praying for you! I hope [Independent Women's Forum] @IWF is providing you security! You are beyond brave and an American treasure!" Jenner is a transgender reality star who has openly supported the banning of males from women's sports. "I think it's disgusting and it's so bad. It's such bad publicity for the trans community. There are so many good people out there. But I call this the 'Radical Rainbow Mafia.' They are left-wing activists. They are domestic terrorists,' Jenner said in a Fox News interview on Saturday, April 8.

Gaines plans to take legal action against SFSU

Gaines recently revealed her plans to sue SFSU, telling the Daily Mail that the school and campus police were woefully unprepared. "I think that what you have to do to make changes in regards to protecting freedoms is to go where it hurts, which is the pockets. If I weren't to do something, there would be no repercussions for these people," she said. "Something needs to be done to hold these people accountable. They need to realize that what happened to me was violent, was completely wrong and was criminal." The former student-athlete said she has dealt with campus police all over the country at speaking engagements and that they are usually prepared, but said that she started to sense something was wrong at SFSU when she claims, police skipped out on a meeting 90 minutes prior to her speech. "What I noticed about these police, what they actually admitted to was they didn't feel comfortable asserting themselves in a way that would make them seem as if they were in a position where they could be accused of racism or transphobia," she said. Gaines mentioned that the campus police have reached out to her to set up a meeting in an attempt to clarify what happened, but no one else from the school has contacted her. Meanwhile, critics are wondering why  Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi hasn't publicly acknowledged the recent event in her district. Multiple attempts to reach out through her office went unanswered.
