Hillary Clinton admits Joe Biden's age could be an issue in his reelection bid

Hillary Clinton, a former presidential candidate, believes voters are right to be concerned about President Joe Biden's age. Clinton was asked about the issue during the Financial Times Summit in Washington, D.C. Specifically, Clinton was asked about the president stumbling at the G7 Summit in Japan. That's not the first and last time Biden has been caught on video stumbling or tripping. Earlier this year, the president was recorded falling while walking up the stairs of Air Force One as he was about to leave for his trip to Ukraine and Poland. In 2022, Biden was also seen falling off his bike while talking to reporters in Delaware, his hometown. Just recently, Biden tripped and fell during a graduation ceremony at the U.S. Air Force academy. The president, 80, was quickly helped up by three people, and walked back to his seat unassisted following the incident in Colorado. "His age is an issue, and people have every right to consider it," said Clinton. She added that it is "a concern for anyone." Clinton, who is 75 years old, added that the country has had "presidents who had fallen before who were a lot younger, and people didn't go into heart palpitations." However, Clinton believes Biden can still be reelected despite her comments about his age. At 80 years old, Biden is the oldest president in American history. White House aides have also downplayed concerns about Biden's mental and physical fitness. Yet at a press conference in April, Biden was seen using answer cards that proved he had advanced knowledge of certain questions. Biden himself shrugged off a question about his age at an event that also featured South Korean President Yoon Sun Yeol. "With regard to age, I can't even say – I guess how old I am, I can't even say the number, it doesn't register with me," said Biden. The president added that he expects voters to also consider his age, something he claims he did himself before he decided to run for office.

Mental acuity a must for candidates in presidential elections

Ex-South Carolina governor Nikki Haley has suggested mental health fitness tests for anyone older than 75. Some say her comment was a jab at both Biden and Donald Trump. But Trump, who is 76, backed Haley's suggestion, saying that great mental acuity and physical stamina are essential for anyone who wants to run for president. Republicans have scrutinized Biden for his verbal gaffes, with some saying he should undergo a cognitive examination. Last February, Biden got a clean bill of health after his annual physical. However, the president's doctor didn't say whether he examined Biden's mental acuity. Biden will be on full public display this year as the campaign ramps up ahead of the 2024 presidential elections. During the 2020 election, Biden campaigned mainly online and rarely left Delaware due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Trump was 70 when he entered the Oval Office in 2017 after beating Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election. If Trump wins a second term, he will be 78 and the second oldest president in history after Biden. Visit JoeBiden.news for more updates on Biden's physical and mental health.
