Gov. Newsom of California wants to SCRAP the Second Amendment by pushing new 28th Amendment

Since he and his party have been unsuccessful in their attempts to scrap the Second Amendment entirely, California Gov. Gavin Newsom proposed a new 28th Amendment this week that would "enshrine fundamental, broadly supported gun safety measures into law." In a press release, Newsom claimed that his 28th Amendment plan will "leav[e] the 2nd Amendment unchanged" while "respecting America's gun-owning tradition," even though it would impose sweeping new "common sense constitutional protections and gun safety measures that Democrats, Republicans, independent voters and gun owners overwhelmingly support." What do these "common sense constitutional protections and gun safety measures" entail? According to Newsom, they include instituting universal background checks, raising the firearm purchase age to 21, mandating a firearm purchase waiting period and stopping the civilian purchase of so-called "assault weapons." (Related: Newsom had a meltdown recently over Target's decision to remove satanic LGBT pride apparel for babies from some of its retail stores.)

Nothing about Newsom's 28th Amendment proposal is constitutional

Newsom did not actually come up with the idea, but rather stole it from left-wing filmmaker and propagandist Michael Moore who nearly a year ago wrote the following about what a newly imposed 28th Amendment would do to the Second Amendment: "The inalienable right of a free people to be kept safe from gun violence and the fear thereof must not be infringed and shall be protected by the Congress and the States. This Amendment thus repeals and replaces the Second Amendment." In other words, Newsom's press release is riddled with lies that make it seem like a 28th Amendment would not in any way infringe on the Second Amendment, which is patently false. Moore's proposal includes a total of eight sections' worth of new restrictions such as mandatory licensing and registration of all guns; requiring proof "for the few who can demonstrate a special need for personal protection"; a new vetting process whereby government authorities are free to anonymously interview anyone a person has ever known, including exes and enemies, before allowing a gun purchase; requiring attendance at annual classes and the taking of written tests to keep one's firearms legal; a minimum age requirement of 25 with annual licensing renewal mandates; and an approved firearms list that includes bans on semi-automatic rifles along with any weapon that holds more than six "bullets." Moore also wants to ban 3D-printed "plastic" or printed guns, as well as impose new purchasing restrictions on ammunition. He also wants to force authorities to obtain psychic powers by requiring that no weapons of any kind be sold to people "whose sole intention is the premeditated elimination of human life." Moore's version of the 28th Amendment would also require that police officers receive special scrutiny for "violent or racist behavior," using Antifa's "standards" for determining what is "racist." While officers of the law certainly need to be reined in from committing police abuse, Moore's proposal, like most leftist proposals, makes it all about skin color and politics. "Persons already owning any of the above banned firearms, and who do not fall into the legal groups of restricted firearms owners, will have one month from the ratification of this Amendment to turn in their firearms for destruction by local law enforcement," reads Section 8 of Moore's 28th Amendment proposal. To be fair, Newsom's 28th Amendment proposal is not nearly as draconian as Moore's which technically makes it more dangerous because it has a much greater chance of receiving enough public support to eventually, potentially, get it added to the United States Constitution.
