Authorities in Mexico found more than 200 drugged migrants from Central America inside a locked cargo trailer. An InfoWars report said the shocking discovery was made on the evening of July 15 in the city of Cardel, located in the eastern Mexican state of Veracruz. Officials who inspected the abandoned cargo trailer found 206 foreign nationals suffering from dehydration and heat exhaustion, according to the Mexican National Institute for Migration (INM). When asked, the migrants said they had been given drugs to inhibit their need to go to the bathroom before the journey. The trailer they were locked in had been modified to accommodate a "second story" inside. Its interior had also been lined with materials designed to thwart X-ray detection. INM said in a press release that 132 migrants from Guatemala divided into families of three members each were found inside the trailer. There were also 12 migrants from Honduras divided into families of three members each inside the trailer, "for a total of 144 Central Americans." Aside from the 48 three-member migrant families locked in the trailer, there were some individual migrants identified. "Thirty-nine adults traveling alone were identified including four women and 35 men, as well as 20 minors – 15 boys and five girls – [all] of Guatemalan nationality. [There were also] three adults from Honduras, for a total of 62 [individual] foreigners." The INM added that the driver of the cargo trailer was not located. The attorney general for the state of Veracuz subsequently assumed control of the abandoned vehicle. Days before the abandoned trailer was found in Cardel, 303 migrants were apprehended in Mexico under similar circumstances during two separate incidents. InfoWars mentioned: "Authorities in Mexico and the U.S. frequently find trailers packed with migrants, some of whom don't survive the previous journey."

50+ migrants earlier died of heat exhaustion in abandoned trailer

The July 15 incident oddly mirrors an incident that happened in late June 2022, where dozens of migrants were found dead while inside a tractor-trailer abandoned in Texas. The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that 48 people died at the scene on June 27. Five others who were taken to different hospitals were later pronounced dead. This raised the total deaths to 53, a county spokesperson said. Forty of the deceased migrants were male, while the remaining 13 were female. INM Director Francisco Garduno said at the time that the truck, abandoned in San Antonio, had been carrying 67 migrants from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. Several others who were in the truck remained in medical facilities while being treated for heat-related illnesses. First responders who arrived at the scene said the abandoned migrants were "hot to the touch" and were "too weak" to move on their own. It remained unclear how long the immigrants were kept inside the trailer, which had no air conditioning or water available inside. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador denounced the open-border policies espoused by the Biden administration, which he believes played a big role in the deaths of the migrants. "It happens because there is trafficking of people and a lack of control, in this case [not only] at the Mexico-U.S. border, but also in the U.S. interior," he said. Lopez Obrador added that "poverty and desperation" prevalent among the Central American migrants – including some from his country – contributed to the unfortunate incident. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott likewise blasted the Biden administration over the deaths of the migrants. He remarked during a press conference: "Because of the way that the Biden administration is not enforcing immigration laws, it's attracting people and enticing people to make this very dangerous trek and lose their lives."
