Incumbent President Joe Biden is too old to run for a second term in the 2024 presidential elections, according to a poll conducted by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). The outlet conducted its survey between Aug. 24 and Aug. 30, polling 1,500 respondents with the help of Democratic pollster Michael Bocian and Republican pollster Tony Fabrizio. The WSJ poll found that 73 percent of respondents say the 80-year-old Biden is too old to run for president. In contrast, only 47 percent say 77-year-old former President Donald Trump is too old to run. It also looked at Biden's mental capacity, with only 36 percent saying the incumbent is mentally fit for the job of chief executive. Forty-six percent of respondents, meanwhile, say Trump is mentally fit to become president. Biden's job as chief executive was also under scrutiny, with only 42 percent saying they approve of how he does his work compared to the 57 percent who disapprove. The respondents also expressed disapproval over numerous aspects of Biden's leadership. Fifty-nine percent of respondents disapprove of how he handles the economy, compared to only 37 percent that approve. Sixty-three precent disapprove of how Biden handles inflation and rising costs of goods, almost double the 34 percent that approve. Sixty-three percent of respondents disapprove of Biden's actions in securing the border, or his refusal to do so, more than double the number of those who approve. Fifty-seven percent disapprove of the way he handles China, compared to 34 percent who feel satisfied. Even the president's actions toward the Russia-Ukraine war face serious disapproval at 52 percent, compared to the 42 percent who approve. Fifty-six-year-old teacher Elizabeth Bankson voted for Biden during the 2020 election. But four years later, she is having doubts about picking him again. "It's 100 percent because of his age," she told the WSJ. "Somebody at the age of 80 has a high risk of things going wrong physically and mentally.

Daily Mail survey also finds Biden too old for second term

A separate survey of 1,000 Americans conducted by the Daily Mail has found that roughly three of four people believe Biden is too old to seek reelection. The British newspaper teamed up with JL Partners for the survey. It found that overall, 71 percent of Americans believe Biden is too old to spend another four years in the White House. This contrasted with the only 14 percent who believe that Biden can still run for president. (Related: Survey: 71% of Americans believe Joe Biden is TOO OLD for a second term.) The same sentiment was visible throughout all age groups, with respondents aged 18 and up overwhelmingly deemed the president overage. Along party lines, 94 percent of Republicans said he is too old for the job and 71 percent of independents felt the same about Biden. The Mail's survey also found that respondents are dissatisfied with Biden's performance. Fifty-two percent of voters said they feel worse off since the former vice president took office, while 37 percent said they feel better off. Along party lines, 92 percent of Republicans and 55 percent of independents  said they feel worse off since January 2021. According to JL Partners founder James Johnson, the survey emphasizes the significance of independent voters in the upcoming 2024 presidential elections. He cited the role of independents in securing Biden's first presidential term in 2020 and in electing many Republicans to the House of Representatives in 2022. "There are few things that unite American voters, but there is one: The belief that Biden is too old to be president," Johnson said. "Decisive margins across all age groups, ethnic groups and political parties agree with the sentiment. Though [Biden] managed to avoid his age becoming a pivotal issue in 2020, it looks set to be the defining hesitation in voters' minds next year."
