Alabama is deploying more of its National Guard troops to the southern border to help protect the country against the illegal immigration crisis. Republican Gov. Kay Ivey has pledged to send 275 Alabama Army National Guard troops to the southern border, becoming the latest GOP governor to do so. "Every state has become a border state under the current policies, and Alabama remains committed to being an integral part of the mission to protect our southern border," said Ivey in a statement. "The Alabama National Guard always stands ready to protect our citizens, and I thank our 275 troops, as well as their families, for their important service to our country." Ivey's troops will be joining the National Guard troops of Virginia, West Virginia and South Carolina who are already at the border aiding the efforts of border states to deter illegals. Ivey previously sent Alabama National Guard troops to the border in 2021 and 2018. Last year, Ivey joined America's 25 other Republican governors in creating the American Governors' Border Strike Force, which coordinates the efforts of 26 states in deterring illegal immigration on the southern border.

Biden's inaction toward illegal immigration worsening border crisis

Ivey has placed the blame on the worsening border crisis squarely on the shoulders of President Joe Biden's inaction. She was one of the Republican governors who signed a letter urging Biden to "provide honest, accurate, detailed information on where migrants admitted at the southern border are being relocated in the United States, in addition to comprehensive data on asylum claim timelines and qualification rates and successful deportations." Without the information, the governors claim they will be unable to fulfill their "fundamental duties to protect our citizens while providing our communities with appropriate services." The letter notes that the crisis at the southern border "extends to every state," and if Biden continues to incentivize illegal immigration through inaction, "our states are carrying the burden" not just of a potentially years-long surge in illegal border crossings, but a potential increase in cross-border criminal activity like drug and human trafficking perpetuated by Mexican cartels. "States are on the front lines, working around the clock responding to the effects of this crisis," wrote the governors in the letter. "Shelters are full, food pantries are empty, law enforcement strained and aid workers exhausted." Since Biden has taken office, there have been over 5.8 million recorded illegal border crossings at the southern border. Customs and Border Protection further estimates that around 1.6 million illegal crossers continue to evade apprehension. "States cannot afford to respond to a challenge of such magnitude while the federal government continues to turn a blind eye," wrote the governors. "As we have made clear repeatedly, every state is now a border state." Learn more about the worsening migration crisis at OpenBorders.news.
