Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg blasted for targeting users of fake vaccine cards while letting actual criminals roam free

Manhattan District Attorney (DA) Alvin Bragg has been blasted for targeting New Yorkers who purchased fake vaccination cards, while letting actual criminals roam free. Writing for Law Enforcement Today, Matthew Holloway pointed out that Bragg, a Democrat, has reportedly been aggressive in charging individuals who bought fake Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination cards. The plaintiffs reportedly bought the documents from a New Jersey stripper. According to the New York Post, the DA had reportedly charged 16 individuals who purchased the fake COVID-19 vaccination cards. Fourteen of the 16 defendants entered guilty pleas to misdemeanor charges, but two moved for the charges to be dismissed. Fortunately, New York State Supreme Court Brendan Lantry sided with the two in a Jan. 30 ruling. The Republican magistrate of the Empire State's high court dismissed the charges for the two defendants, calling them "overkill." He also blasted the Manhattan DA for "cherry-picking" the individuals he prosecutes, adding that Bragg's office "routinely – nearly daily – [moves] to dismiss significantly more serious counts or entire indictments." This, Lantry added, sought to avoid harsher penalties for previously convicted felons or to avoid jeopardizing people's immigration status – lining up with Bragg's stance as a "progressive" prosecutor. "These motions submitted by the people are made months or even years after the 45-day period has expired to dismiss counts of indictments such as sexual assaults, drug sales, robbery, burglary and other violent and non-violent serious felony offenses. To say now that such a motion is untimely is wholly inconsistent with the practice of the Office of the [Manhattan DA]," Lantry wrote in his ruling. "In Bragg's version of America, hoodlums who steal, rape and murder deserve the most leniency possible," wrote commentator Buck Sexton of "The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show" fame. "But people who refused to go along with the moronic [vaccine] card tyranny deserve to have their lives ruined." (Related: NYC ends vaccine mandate for retail customers – but not for employees.)

Bragg's record as Manhattan DA nothing to brag about

"Since taking office in 2022, Bragg has come under attack for not seeking prison time for various charges and downgrading felony charges in a slew of cases, including armed robbery and drug offenses," the Post pointed out. Aside from this, the Manhattan DA has also indicted former President Donald Trump on 34 counts – with the real estate mogul pleading not guilty on all charges. Doug Cohen, a spokesman for Bragg, declined to address the Republican state justice's remarks. He nevertheless reiterated that major crimes in Manhattan were down five percent overall in 2023. Cohen also noted that during Bragg's first two years in office, shootings were down by 38 percent and homicides down by 24 percent. However, the DA's office did not seek any bail conditions for five illegal aliens who beat two officers of the New York City Police Department (NYPD). According to Holloway, Bragg even attempted to defend this decision – claiming that it was based on evidence available at the time. "I watched the tape; despicable behavior, it sickened me and outraged me," the progressive prosecutor told the Daily Mail. "While the video is shocking and disturbing, in order to secure convictions in the court of law – it is essential that we conclusively identify each defendant. In Manhattan, we don't tolerate or accept assaults on police officers." Joseph Borelli, minority leader of the New York City Council, praised Lantry's decision to dismiss the charges. According to him, one of the defendants obtained the forged vaccination card to maintain her nursing school enrollment. She nevertheless got injected with the vaccine, rendering the card useless, the Republican alderman remarked. "This is what Bragg is: a clown," Borelli told the Post. "Imagine prosecuting a scared woman for this, even though she didn't even use the fake card – while at the same time, letting violent [perpetrators] go. I'm glad [Lantry] called him out for the world to see." Head over to Biased.news for more similar stories.
