Disgraced NY congressman George Santos to revive his DRAG QUEEN character on Cameo video platform

Disgraced former Rep. George Santos (R-NY) has announced that he will revive his drag queen persona on the customized video platform Cameo. "Y'all weren't ready for this drop? I've decided to bring Kitara out of the closet after 18 years," the former congressman for New York posted on X. Santos pertained to his drag persona Kitara Rivache. This time, however, the 35-year-old Santos' drag persona would return for a limited period. Cameo is a platform that allows fans to pay celebrities to record short, customized videos. According to the Kitara Ravache profile, the personalized videos will cost $350 each. Santos, a first-term GOP congressman who was ousted from Congress in December 2023, began using Cameo days after his expulsion. At the time, he told Semafor that the money he made on the platform in just 48 hours exceeded the $170,000 annual salary he would have received as a representative. (Related: George Santos tied to Ilhan Omar-style immigration marriage scam.) Santos later remarked that 20 percent of the proceeds from his Kitara videos will go to two nonprofits. The first beneficiary is the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ), which aims to build support for Israel by fostering connections between the two Abrahamic religions. Meanwhile, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (T2T) helps "America to never forget Sept. 11, 2001" and supports first responders, military service members and veterans. Both the IFCJ and T2T said in emails that they have not engaged with Santos or his team. The two nonprofits added that they only learned about the potential donations when the former congressman tweeted about the matter on April 29. Before his December 2023 expulsion, Santos was slapped with 23 federal charges – which include money laundering, wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and theft of public funds – in October. He has pleaded not guilty to all the charges. Andrew Mancilla, an attorney for the disgraced congressman, said in an April 29 email that his client is not guilty. "His defense team will be filing motions to dismiss those charges," he added. Mancilla did not respond to a request for comment regarding Santos' revived drag persona.

Santos entangled in a web of lies and corruption

Back in January of last year, Brazilian drag queen Eula Rochard shared a photo on Facebook that featured another drag performer. The Brazilian said their companion's name was Kitara Rivache, mentioning the latter being an "American Republican representative" – which matches Santos' drag persona. According to Rochard, the picture had originally appeared in a Brazilian newspaper in 2008. At the time of Rochard's posting, Santos – who has lived in Brazil throughout parts of his life – denied his history of drag performance. He called the allegations of him being a former drag queen "categorically false." But in the following days after the denial, Santos seemed to imply that he had performed in drag in the past. "I was young and I had fun at a festival," he told reporters. "Sue me for having a life." Moreover, the emergence of Rochard's picture with Santos surfaced shortly after a bombshell New York Times investigation about the former congressman. The newspaper alleged that Santos had fabricated key aspects of his education, work history, finances and personal life. Included among the fabrications were claims that he worked at Goldman Sachs and that four of his employees died in the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida. In 2022, Santos was accused of falsely claiming that he is Jewish and that his mother was in the World Trade Center on 9/11. The former congressman clarified in an interview with the New York Post that he never claimed to be Jewish, but "Jew-ish." Records obtained by NBC News in January 2023 showed that Santos' mother was living in Brazil during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In 2016, Santos was also accused of refusing to hand over thousands of dollars he allegedly raised for a disabled veteran whose dog needed life-saving surgery. He denied the allegations in a 2023 interview with Semafor, seven years after they were first brought up. Visit Corruption.news for more similar stories.
