Biden admits Kamala Harris was chosen as VP for DIVERSITY rather than qualifications

President Joe Biden has finally admitted that the Democratic Party chose Vice President Kamala Harris as his running mate in the 2020 presidential election primarily for her racial and gender identity rather than her qualifications. "To me, the values of diversity, equality and inclusion are literally – and that's not kidding – the core strengths of America." Biden stated during a recent campaign stop in Philadelphia. "I've tapped into the full talents of our country, and it starts at the top with the vice president." Biden made a similar statement during a White House event commemorating Black History Month, shortly after his first 2024 Democratic primary win in South Carolina. Speaking in the East Room, Biden stressed the support of Black Democrats, a crucial constituency for his party. "I promised an administration that would look like America. I’m proud to have the most diverse administration in all of American history," he said. "I am president, and Kamala [Harris] is vice president, because of you. You've had my back, and we've had your back, and we always will." During his presidential bid in 2o2o, Biden assured MSNBC's Joy Reid that he was considering several Black women for the vice presidential role. He stressed the importance of incorporating more non-White individuals into his administration, even without disclosing any specific candidate at the time. Biden also received a letter, signed by over 100 prominent Black men, urging him to select a Black woman to secure electoral victory. Notable signatories included Sean "Diddy" Combs, currently under investigation for sex trafficking by a grand jury in New York, radio and television personality Charlamagne tha God and civil rights attorney Ben Crump. Furthermore, the selection of Harris was seen as a strategic move to galvanize loyal Democratic voters and activists. The Democrats framed the role of Harris as a significant step toward representation and inclusivity in American politics, and gave voters a reason to go to the polls and vote for someone based on identity rather than ideology.

Biden stands by diversity priorities even as politics shift around him

Throughout his presidency, Biden has implemented numerous Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives across various government agencies, establishing executive orders and mandates to promote racial and gender diversity. These initiatives span multiple sectors, including agriculture, healthcare and education. In a National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Fight for Freedom Fund dinner in Detroit on May 19, where he served as the keynote speaker, Biden also declared DEI as the "core strength of America." "We have more African Americans, we have more women, we have more minorities in our administration than any other administration in all of history. That’s why we’re doing so d--- well." All this while politics shift around him. Several Republican-led states, including Utah, Texas and North Dakota, have curtailed or banned diversity programs in public colleges and government offices. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis made anti-DEI efforts a cornerstone of his unsuccessful presidential campaign, arguing that DEI stands for "discrimination, exclusion and indoctrination."
