Pro-gun group: Gun control laws being ABUSED to deprive Trump of his Second Amendment rights

A pro-gun group has pointed out that gun control laws are being abused to deprive former President Donald Trump of his right to keep and bear arms guaranteed under the Second Amendment. The National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR) cited this abuse in a June 11 statement, referencing both the deprivation of Second Amendment rights for both Trump and presidential son Hunter Biden. According to the NAGR, the Gun Control Act (GCA) and the National Instant Criminal Background Check (NICS) system "have functioned to strip gun rights from millions of Americans without due process." It added that the two "failed laws stripped Second Amendment rights from 264,000 veterans without due process. In total, over 16 million Americans are on the [Federal Bureau of Investigation's] 'no-guns' NICS list." "These same gun control laws, which Hunter Biden is guilty of violating, are the same laws now being abused to federally bar Trump from possessing a firearm for the rest of his life. Right now, the Biden family is getting a taste of their own anti-gun medicine. But so is Trump." The NAGR's statement referenced remarks by Trump back in February 2018, where the former president reportedly called to "take the guns first." According to The Hill, the comments followed the mass shooting by Nikolas Cruz in Parkland, Florida that killed 17 and wounded 17 others. Cruz managed to purchase the AR-15 used in the shooting, despite numerous calls to law enforcement about his unstable behavior. "I like taking the guns early, like in this crazy man's case that just took place in Florida. To go to court would have taken a long time," Trump said at the time. "Take the guns first, go through due process second."

Trump's comments to "take the guns first" backfired years later

The NAGR continued that Trump's 2018 remarks prompted Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) to push for an expanded gun control law that went to President Joe Biden's desk. The law – dubbed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act – was introduced by Cornyn, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) when the latter was still a Democrat. The elder Biden signed this proposal into law in June 2022, codifying another infringement on the constitutionally guaranteed right to keep and bear arms. "Make no mistake – Cornyn's rush to add more names to the 'no-guns' NICS list is the reason Trump's gun rights are in jeopardy today," the NAGR pointed out. According to Reuters, the former president's gun license is set to be revoked by the New York City Police Department (NYPD) following his rigged conviction. The NYPD had previously suspended his license in April of last year. "These gun control laws should not exist. This should be a wake-up call for the entire Republican Party and [every] GOP lawmaker to stop abandoning the Second Amendment." According to the pro-gun group, such anti-gun laws "only ensure drug lords like Hunter Biden – who do not care about what the law says either way – will continue to be armed and dangerous, while ordinary law-abiding gun owners continue to lose their gun rights every day at the hands of corrupt bureaucrats like [Manhattan District Attorney] Alvin Bragg." (Related: Check out the worst NYC criminals who were repeatedly released by Manhattan DA Bragg while he focused on indicting Trump.) The NAGR ultimately called on Trump, Cornyn, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to "publicly embrace a repeal of the GCA and NICS … once and for all," calling the two edicts "failed federal gun control laws." "Since NAGR was founded in 2000, it has been one of the fastest growing no-c0mpromise gun lobbies in the United States. Its relentless activism is the reason why legislation like constitutional carry is now the law of the land in several red states," Big League Politics remarked. "Anyone serious about restoring gun rights should support NAGR's campaigns." Watch Breanna Morello and Mia Cathell talking about Hunter Biden's conviction on gun-related charges below.
