DEMOCRAT COUP: Pelosi played major role in pressuring Biden to DROP OUT of presidential race

Heavy pressure from congressional Democrats, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York, played a huge role in President Joe Biden's decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race on Sunday, July 21. But none of them applied more pressure than former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). According to POLITICO, Pelosi has been "working the phones" since Biden's lackluster performance during the June 27 presidential debate hosted by CNN. In the past few weeks, she has repeatedly warned that Trump represents an existential threat to democracy who must be defeated in November, a feat more and more Democrats are uncertain Biden can accomplish as questions about his mental fitness continue. POLITICO senior political columnist Jonathan Martin suggested in an article that Pelosi keeps her efforts discreet to maintain party unity. "One of her colleagues was struck to see her chatting, furtively but openly, with Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries [of New York] last week in a corner of the House Democratic cloakroom in plain sight of a dozen lawmakers," Martin wrote, adding that the extent of Pelosi's behind-the-scenes role has not been fully revealed and may never be if the former speaker has her way. "But I am told by people familiar with the exchanges that she's stage-managed phone calls to Jeffries, plotted strategy with the biggest names in Democratic politics and told one former elected official bluntly that Biden's legacy can't be destroying their party." Meanwhile, Pelosi spokesman Ian Krager told the news outlet that "[former House] Speaker Pelosi fully supports whatever President Biden decides to do. We must turn our attention to why this race is so important: Donald Trump would be a disaster for our country and our democracy."

Biden felt "hurt and betrayed"

Even before Biden made an official announcement, Newsmax commentator Mark Halperin revealed that the president already agreed to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. Halperin, who cited key Democratic sources, accurately reported that the 81-year-old commander-in-chief would announce his decision on July 21. Reality is setting in," a source close to Biden told the New York Times. "I don’t see how [Biden] can outmaneuver the sustained attacks," POLITICO quoted a Democratic figure close to the White House as saying: "It feels like the ending is near." The source was eventually proven right. Biden's resolve had been shaken by a combination of the intensive machinations of Pelosi, fresh poll data from swing states showing his path to an electoral college victory narrowing and a boycott by key donors. Biden reportedly told his aides that he felt "hurt and betrayed" at how the party's leading figures pressured him to step aside. He then canceled his Nevada appearance and headed to his home in Delaware, where he is now isolated. His doctor Kevin O'Connor said in a statement that he is being treated with Paxlovid, does not have a fever and that his vital signs are normal.
