President Joe Biden claimed in an interview that he has done more for the "Palestinian community" than anyone else. The comment was made during an interview with host Chris "Speedy" Morman on Complex's "360 With Speedy." During the interview, Biden defended his administration's response to Israel's invasion of Gaza and the massive death toll in the region, with current statistics claiming over 38,000 Palestinians dead, the majority of them children. "By the way, I'm the guy that did more for the Palestinian community than anybody," said the president. "I'm the guy that opened up all the assets. I'm the guy that made sure that I got the Egyptians to open the border to let goods through, medicine and food." "I'm the guy that's been able to pull together the Arab states to agree to help the Palestinians with food and shelter," he added. "I mean, I've been very supportive of the Palestinians." Biden forgot to mention that under his administration, he has approved over $26 billion in military aid for Israel and has consistently supported Israel's conflict with Hamas in Gaza.

Biden's claim about supporting Palestinians heavily criticized

The president's assertion was met with ridicule by supporters of peace in Gaza and Palestinian rights advocates, who stressed that Biden and the White House's unconditional support for Israel is fueling a genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. "It's hard to decide whether these comments by Biden were arrogant, blind or deceitful," said Palestinian-American comedian and activist Amer Zahr. "It seems that he wants to take credit both for enabling the genocide and for letting Palestinians have a little bit of medicine and water and food." "Putting aside active United States complicity in the war in Gaza, you'd think someone who had 38,000 Palestinians killed under his tenure would have a bit more humility," noted Mai El-Sadany, executive director of the Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy. "Biden claiming he's done the most for Palestinians is like an arsonist taking credit for tossing a splash of water on the fire he's still fueling," said Layla Elabed, a Michigan-based organizer calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and the end to all U.S. arms sales to Israel. The Council on American-Islamic Relations also called Biden's remarks "tone deaf" and a "deeply disturbing boast … [that] completely ignores the genocidal campaign of mass slaughter, ethnic cleansing and forced starvation that the Israeli government has launched against the Palestinian people with U.S. support." The Council also called out the president for lying about denying Israel "offensive weapons" when it has only stopped a shipment of arms to Israel on one occasion, and even then only temporarily, while his administration continues to send military aid to Israel.
