INTEGRITY ISSUE: Kamala Harris distances herself from past far-left stances to win voter support
Vice President Kamala Harris has been
distancing herself from several far-left positions she previously endorsed to seek voter appeal for the upcoming elections.
In the past few weeks, resurfaced videos of her interviews have been circulating online to reveal the truth about her controversial stances and statements on key issues.
For instance, in a June 2020 interview on the "Ebro in the Morning" radio program,
Harris publicly endorsed the "defund the police" movement. Harris then advocated for reimagining public safety and reallocating funds traditionally spent on policing. (Related:

"
Defund the police, the issue behind it is that we need to reimagine how we are creating safety," Harris stated during her appearance on the radio show. "When you have cities with one-third of their entire city budget focused on policing, we know that is not the smart way or the best way or the right way to achieve safety."
That same month, Harris reiterated her support for reallocating police funds during an appearance on
ABC’s "The View." She even suggested diverting funds from police departments to investing in public education, affordable housing, home ownership, small business capital and healthcare to create safer communities.
Similarly, in a 2019
CNN town hall, then-Senator and presidential candidate Harris boldly proclaimed that
she supported banning fracking in Rust Belt states like Pennsylvania.
"There’s no question I'm in favor of banning fracking," Harris said at the time. But because Pennsylvania is economically reliant on fracking, the Harris campaign recently stated that she would not ban fracking if elected.
In a 2018 interview with
NBC’s Kasie Hunt,
Harris suggested a complete overhaul of ICE when asked if she supported abolishing it.
"There’s no question that we’ve got to critically reexamine ICE and its role, and the way that it is being administered, and the work it is doing," Harris explained during the interview. "And we need to probably think about starting from scratch."
Harris has also previously suggested that felons should have voting rights, supported mandatory gun buyback programs and the elimination of private health insurance in favor of Medicare For All. But as she seeks voter appeal for the upcoming presidential election in November, she has been "changing" and "sugar-coating" her narratives.
Harris faces intense and renewed criticism from conservatives as her past interviews resurfaced
As
Harris' stance on these controversial issues resurfaces while she tried to disown them, the vice president faces intense and renewed criticism from conservatives.
"Kamala Harris is the most far-left progressive presidential nominee in history and extreme Democrats in the Rust Belt now own every single policy she supports," National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Mike Marinella told
Fox News Digital.
Harris has also faced a backlash on social media, with Donald Trump Jr. posting on X: "Kamala Harris is even more extreme than Joe Biden – She wants to ban fracking and kill countless jobs in states like PA for American workers."
Similar sentiments were echoed by GOP Pennsylvania Senate candidate Dave McCormick and former acting Director of the United States National Intelligence Ric Grenell, who warned Pennsylvania voters
against supporting Harris.
Former President Donald Trump also joined the chorus as he shared a clip of Harris' past comments supporting the defunding of police, with a caption: "She’s a radical left lunatic, defund the police, all of the different things."
Additionally, RJ Hauman, the president of the National Immigration Center for Enforcement claimed that a Democratic presidential ticket led by Harris will result in a significant shift to the left on immigration enforcement.
"Kamala Harris wasn't just Biden’s Border Czar, she was his Abolish ICE Director — directing the agency in charge of enforcing our immigration laws to willfully violate them," Hauman said. "Now that Biden is out of the picture, she is sure to return to some of the most insane anti-enforcement positions that we’ve ever seen from an elected official. The choice in November will now be even more clear — mass deportation or mass release of illegal aliens and violent criminals into American communities."
