Kamala Harris remains SOFT ON CRIME despite her tough-on-crime ads

Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, is actually soft on crime despite advertisements that paint her as a "tough-on-crime" prosecutor. According to the Washington Free Beacon, the advertisements are part of a $50 million campaign in several battleground states. The said ads paint Harris, who formerly served as San Francisco District Attorney (DA) and California Attorney General (AG), as a "tough on crime" prosecutor who "put murderers and abusers behind bars." However, Harris is far from the tough prosecutor portrayed in the advertisements. Not only did she prevent murderers and abusers from jail time, she also ensured that these criminals stayed outside prison. The Free Beacon shared several instances of the now-vice president's soft-on-crime stance. "I took on perpetrators of all kinds – predators who abused women, fraudsters who ripped off consumers, cheaters who broke the rules for their own gain," Harris claimed during a campaign rally in Wisconsin. In reality, she took pity on these perpetrators by granting plea deals and recommending probation to some of them during her stint as San Francisco DA. In 2004, Harris' office offered a plea deal to domestic abuser Scott McAlpin – who was charged with stalking and terrorizing a woman for three years. Eight months after the plea deal, McAlpin killed the woman he was stalking and stuffed her body in the trunk of his car. In 2005, Harris made a deal with Dwayne Reed, who was charged with murdering Hunter McPherson – the son of former California Secretary of State Bruce McPherson during a robbery. Despite having six prior felony convictions, the San Francisco DA agreed to release Reed in exchange for his testimony against his accomplice in the murder robbery that killed the younger McPherson. Reed murdered another man eight months after testifying.

"Blame it on Kamala Harris"

In 2006, Harris' office granted probation to Devaughndre Broussard, who assaulted and robbed Christopher Hall Jr. while on the San Franciso Municipal Railway. This enabled Broussard to assassinate Chauncey Bailey, editor of the Oakland Post, the following year. According to SFGATE, Bailey's 2007 killing arose from his investigation of a crime syndicate implicating the suspect's family. "He should have gone to state prison," said Christopher Hall Sr., the father of Broussard's first victim. "Blame it on Kamala Harris." Attorney Jim Hammer, one of Harris' former homicide prosecutors, denounced his boss in a September 2006 op-ed. He accused the then-San Francisco DA of lacking the "guts and willingness to go after tough cases." "Ask any experienced gang or homicide detective and they will tell you that prosecuting a few key suspects can have a disproportionate effect on reducing crime," Hammer wrote at the time. "Prosecuting a suspect in a tough case and taking him to trial, even if you lose, sends the message that sooner or later he or she will get caught. Tough decisions by the DA can help reduce crime." According to Law Enforcement Today (LET), Harris "has a long history of favoring criminals to the detriment of law enforcement." Even officers of the San Francisco Police Department have accused her of leniency in charging violent criminals. This contradicts her campaign's claim that she supports the police, another lie being pushed to the people through her advertisements. During the Black Lives Matter riots in 2020, the vice president admitted to being a "defund the police" zealot and suggested that policing needs to be "reimagined." Harris also exhorted people to donate to the Minneapolis Freedom Fund to bail out criminals who burned down a police precinct in Minneapolis. LET concluded by pointing out that while Harris can "bloviate about being 'tough on crime," her record clearly shows that she is "a progressive anti-police, pro-criminal zealot." It added: "No amount of attempting to rewrite history can change that." (Related: Doc Burkhart: Dems trying to REWRITE HISTORY on VP Kamala Harris.)
