UNHINGED: Ex-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says Donald Trump is a threat to democracy

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) compared beating former President Donald Trump in the November elections to America's existential wars, arguing that the ex-POTUS is a threat to the nation's democracy. Pelosi spoke with newscaster Andrea Mitchell on the fourth and final day of MSNBC's coverage of the Democratic National Convention (DNC). She talked about the Democrats' mission to beat Trump in the upcoming elections, claiming that he is as much of a threat to democracy as the British government was during the American Revolution. "The times have found us," Pelosi said implying that liberals are facing the same stakes that were present in 1776 and then the Civil War. "We have to defeat a person who is a threat to our democracy of the kind that we have not seen. At the beginning of our country, Thomas Paine said that times have found us. Declare war, establish a new nation." It is not the first time Pelosi has quoted Paine but critics argue that the American founding father did not mention declaring war but rather declaring independence. Pelosi continued her rant, saying that the 16th U.S. President Abraham Lincoln took up that charge to keep our country together decades later. "And now the times have found us to save our democracy. That is what we are here to do," she declared. The National Pulse commented that Pelosi has been standing by her years-long rhetoric but she has been misquoting people. She is even urging violence against Trump and his supporters. Analysts linked her recommendations, especially to the younger generation, to the assassination attempt against the former president in July during a political rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Incumbent President Joe Biden urged the party to lower the charged political rhetoric following the attempted assassination of Trump. On the evening of the Trump liquidation attempt, Biden said: "My fellow Americans, I want to speak to you tonight about the need for us to lower the temperature in our politics. Do remember, while we may disagree, we are not enemies. We're neighbors, we're friends, coworkers, citizens, and most importantly, we are fellow Americans. We must stand together." Meanwhile, Pelosi's statement has been receiving major backlash from X users. Digital strategist Greg Price said: "Pelosi says that defeating President Trump is the equivalent of defeating the British and the Confederacy because he's a 'threat to democracy of a kind we have not seen.' Only been a little over a month since the guy was nearly assassinated BTW." Public relations specialist Chris Barron posted: "Remind me again which side is threatening political violence?" "Says the woman who overruled every Dem primary election," columnist Eddie Zipper wrote. "Says the woman who staged a coup on the democratically nominated candidate," commentator Collin Rugg added.

John Morgan, a major Democratic donor from Florida who said he speaks frequently with Pelosi, described her as being "extremely distraught about this because she genuinely loves Joe Biden." And now that her plan has been successfully carried out, she has been boasting about her "longstanding friendship" with Biden.
