Kamala co-sponsored legislation that bans sale of gas-powered vehicles during her time in the Senate, but her campaign now claims she opposes EV mandate
Vice President Kamala Harris championed the
outlawing of gasoline-powered cars in favor of electric vehicles during her Senate days. But because electric vehicles (EVs) are now unpopular among U.S. voters, her campaign claims she's opposed to the EV mandate.
In a "fact check" email, Ammar Moussa, Harris campaign's rapid response director, dismissed claims made by former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), about the vice president's readiness to "force every American to own an electric vehicle."
"Vice President Harris does not support an electric vehicle mandate," Moussa wrote. (Related:

The mainstream media is also helping Harris by decoupling her from President Joe Biden's failed policies related to EVs.
The Biden-Harris administration went into overdrive to
force car companies to produce more EVs while they cracked down on gas-powered vehicle tailpipe emissions. When Harris was a Democrat senator from California, she also co-sponsored the Zero-Emissions Vehicle Act of 2019 which requires car manufacturers to sell zero-emission vehicles by 2040.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Michael Regan last year announced new tailpipe emission standards to restrict fossil fuel vehicles. Under this plan, Americans will likely be forced to buy electric vehicles, which is exactly what Biden wants.
The new emission standards could force as much as 67 percent of all new vehicle sales to be electric. Currently, only 5.8 percent of vehicles sold in the U.S. are electric,
CNBC reported. The current regime's EV mandate would require nearly 70 percent of most new car purchases to be electric or hybrid by 2032.
Harris continues spearheading climate change initiatives
After the Biden-Harris ticket won the 2020 election, Harris continued
spearheading climate change initiatives, most notably taking charge of the Clean School Bus program.
The EPA-backed program was created nearly three years ago as a provision under the Biden-Harris administration's 2021 infrastructure bill and allocated $5 billion for the program. EPA has since made $1 billion in grants available to help deliver nearly 2,500 electric school buses to school districts across the nation.
Harris and Regan were touted by the federal government as the point people for the program, but it has only delivered 60 battery-electric or low-emissions propane-fueled school buses, the
Washington Free Beacon reported.
Meanwhile, the $7.5 billion federal program, which was part of 2021's infrastructure bill aimed to install half a million EV charging stations across the nation, has only produced eight federal charging stations as of May.
Vance slammed Harris' EV mandate during a campaign event. He also criticized Harris after she lied about her stance on Chinese-made electric vehicles.
"If you think groceries are bad, wait until Kamala Harris makes every American trucker drive an electric truck. If you think car prices are bad, wait until Kamala Harris makes everybody buy a Chinese-made electric vehicle. If you think housing prices are bad, wait until Kamala Harris makes it impossible for our truckers to get construction materials to the building site. Harris' policies are a disaster ladies and gentlemen," Vance said during a campaign event in Erie, Pennsylvania.
