Tech giant Facebook is at the center of controversy over accusations of censorship after the social media giant blocked the circulation of a secret recording of a Department of Justice official strongly criticizing Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's attempts to prosecute former President Donald Trump as "nonsense." The video, which remains up on independent video hosting platforms including Rumble, features a secret recording of Nicholas Biase, chief spokesperson for the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, which covers the boroughs of Manhattan and the Bronx. "Honestly, I think the case is nonsense," said Biase during a conversation with an unidentified woman affiliated with the media network of conservative political commentator and media personality Steven Crowder. In the footage, Biase said he has known Bragg for 15 years and previously worked with him in the attorney's office and he described the rushed proceedings in the "hush money" case against Trump as a "perversion of justice." He further claimed that Bragg's main purpose in pursuing the case against the former president was to make a name for himself and, eventually, run for higher office. "He wants to be something … a mayor? I'm not sure what he wants to be, but I know he's not happy just being the DA of New York County," said Biase. "Before he decided to prosecute Trump, did you know who he was? You do now." Biase even accused Bragg of "stacking charges" against Trump and "rearranging" facts "just to make it fit a case." "This guy is probably going to try to lock [Trump] up. And there is going to be – it's going to be ugly," Biase added. "They are so obsessed with getting him." When asked whom Biase meant by "they," he confirmed that he was referring to the Democratic Party. "It affects his candidacy if he's a convicted felon," he said, before adding that the ruse has backfired. "Those felonies did nothing to stop Trump from running… In fact, they made him more relevant."

Facebook accused of preventing Americans from learning the truth about cases against Trump

Social media users who wanted to share the footage – initially published by Crowder on Thursday, Sept. 5, on his social media accounts – were hit with the following message: "We can't review this website because the content doesn't meet our Community Standards. If you think this is a mistake, please let us know." Other users reported getting the message "We removed your content… This goes against our Community Standards on cybersecurity… You'll hear back from us soon." "We broke a massive story today on the Department of Justice," said Gerald Morgan, CEO of Crowder's media network. "And a lot of you haven't seen it." "Facebook is back in the business of making sure you do not see information that pertains to the election and Donald Trump and this administration," he added.
