Hillary Clinton wants CRIMINAL CHARGES for Americans spreading "disinformation"

Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton wants Americans spreading what she calls "disinformation" to be slapped with criminal charges. She voiced this out during a Sept. 17 appearance on "The Rachel Maddow Show" on MSNBC. According to the former first lady, holding American individuals accountable through civil or criminal charges could serve as a warning to deter the distribution of "disinformation." Clinton also acknowledged the importance of indicting foreign actors, namely the Russians, who are responsible for what she dubs as election interference. However, Americans who play a role in amplifying disinformation shouldn't be overlooked, she added. "I think it's important to indict the Russians … who were engaged in direct election interference and boosting [former President Donald] Trump back in 2016. But I also think there are Americans who are engaged in this kind of propaganda. Whether they should be civilly, or even in some cases criminally, charged is something that would be a better deterrence," Clinton told program host Rachel Maddow. The former secretary of state under the Obama administration endorsed the ongoing efforts of the Department of State and the Department of Justice to reveal the extent of Moscow's influence in the U.S. elections. Clinton, who ran against and lost to Trump in the 2016 presidential election, has long maintained that her defeat was due to Russian interference. She described these efforts as merely scratching the surface of a much larger issue, adding: "There is a far distance to go." The former first lady's comments also touched on the broader issue of foreign influence in American politics – warning that the U.S.'s enemies such as Moscow, Beijing and Tehran are seeking to sway voters. "We are not going to let adversaries, whether it’s Russia, China, Iran, or anybody else, basically try to influence Americans as to how we should vote in picking our leaders," she ultimately remarked.

According to Reclaim The Net, the former first lady's call for charges against Americans who share "disinformation" is "a controversial step toward restricting free speech." It added: "The idea of penalizing individuals for spreading information, regardless of its origins, raises concerns about the boundaries of government power and the potential for misuse of such laws to suppress dissenting views." "The First Amendment … prohibits Congress from making laws that abridge the freedom of speech. Under this protection, the idea of prosecuting individuals for the mere act of sharing information – regardless of its veracity – presents a potential conflict with these foundational rights." But upon scratching the surface, Clinton's hatred of "disinfo" stems from her bitterness toward her 2016 loss to Trump. During the same interview, the failed presidential candidate reiterated how "dangerous" the real estate mogul is for democracy. "The object in this case is Trump, his demagoguery, his danger to our country and the world. You know, they were merciless about what they saw as President [Joe] Biden's problems in the debate and calling for him to withdraw. I believe Trump has disqualified himself over and over and over again to be a presidential candidate, let alone a president," she told Maddow. "We can't go back and give this very dangerous man another chance to do harm to our country and the world. I'm very hopeful, and even optimistic, that Americans who do not want to see a continuation of this politics of hate and division will reject Trump.
