Trump admin rescues 13,000 of almost 450,000 unaccompanied children who crossed the border during Biden's term
- The Trump administration has rescued 13,000 out of nearly 450,000 unaccompanied children trafficked or smuggled during Biden's term, uncovering cases of forced labor, underage pregnancy and exploitation.
- Over 300,000 unaccompanied children were placed with unvetted sponsors, many of whom were later identified as smugglers or traffickers. A DHS report revealed 32,000 children were lost after missing court hearings.
- The Biden administration ignored a backlog of 65,000 reports on unaccompanied minors; HHS has since processed 59,000 cases, implementing stricter oversight measures.
- Federal agents rescued children from dire conditions, including a pregnant 14-year-old and siblings forced into labor, while HSI Newark found three minors in abusive, unsanitary conditions.
- Over 43,000 children skipped court hearings, and 233,000 were never issued notices, leaving them vulnerable. Officials estimate the true number of missing children may exceed 450,000, calling it a humanitarian disaster.
In a major step in rectifying the destructive border polices of former President Joe Biden,
the Trump administration has rescued 13,000 of almost 450,000 unaccompanied children trafficked or smuggled during the Democrat's term.
The
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced this development Friday, July 25,
in a press release on its website. It noted how investigators uncovered cases of underage pregnancy, forced labor and minors living in squalid conditions. Homeland Security Secretary described the crisis as "modern-day slavery."
"The evil of human trafficking cannot be overstated," she remarked. "By leaving our borders open and even encouraging people to come here illegally, Biden enabled the largest human-trafficking operation in modern history."
The department's success comes amid a revelation by DHS Inspector General Joseph Cuffari during a recent congressional hearing. The inspector general told lawmakers with the House Oversight Committee that between fiscal years 2019 and 2023, more than 448,000 unaccompanied alien children were transferred from
Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody to DHS. The Friday statement also stated that more than 300,000 of these unaccompanied children "were allowed to be placed with sponsors who were actually smugglers and sex traffickers."
In March of this year, the
Department of Health and Human Services discovered a backlog of more than 65,000 reports about unaccompanied minors – something the Biden administration turned a blind eye to. Since then, the department implemented new measures to address this, resulting in more than 59,000 backlogged reports being analyzed and processed. (Related:

Child trafficking: The shocking truth behind Biden's border crisis
Federal agents have carried out welfare checks nationwide, rescuing children from dire situations. The rescued children include a pregnant 14-year-old in Texas found with her unborn child's father, and siblings in Tennessee forced to work off smuggling debts.
In another example,
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Newark managed to rescue three minors during a welfare check. The three minors were found in a residence infested by rats, and they did not have any food. A subsequent interview by HSI revealed that the three were
abused and potentially exploited for labor.
Historical parallels to unchecked child migration underscore the severity of the crisis. The second Trump administration has framed its response as a moral obligation, with Noem vowing to "eradicate human trafficking" through stricter enforcement.
Of the 448,000 migrant children processed in recent years,
more than 43,000 skipped court hearings. Meanwhile, over 233,000 were never issued notices to appear – leaving them vulnerable to exploitation.
But White House Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller claimed the true number of missing children could exceed 450,000. "The Democrats have committed crimes for which they can never be forgiven, and Donald Trump is cleaning it up right now," he told
Fox News in a recent interview.
As investigators pursue thousands of leads, the race to recover missing children continues – a stark reminder of the human toll of immigration policy failures. With tens of thousands still unaccounted for, the Trump administration faces an unprecedented challenge: Undoing what it calls a humanitarian disaster years in the making.
