A program to give $500 monthly checks to low-income families of color in Oakland, California, has been criticized for explicitly excluding the 10,000 white residents living in poverty in the city.
The lottery system, funded by private philanthropists, will see the no-strings-attached checks go to households with an annual income of less than $59,000 if they have at least one child. The other half of the $500 checks will go to those earning under $30,000.
According to data from an Oakland Equity Indicators Report, cited by officials to justify favoring people of color, white households earn about three times that of African-American ones.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Schaaf said, presumably with a straight face, that the reason she and others managing the program are being overtly racist against whites is because they make three times as much, on average, as black households.
"We have designed this demonstration project to add to the body of evidence, and to begin this relentless campaign to adopt a guaranteed income federally," she said, without noting that a federal program would be paid for by taxpayers, not 'private equity' funds.
Following the announcement, people commented angrily online, with many Reddit users blasting the program.
One person wrote that it is "pure racism." Another asked, "Is this even legal? Can a city government legally have a program only for certain races?"
Still another noted that the program did not take into account the changing demographics of Oakland.
"The high income earners in Oakland are mostly young transplants that did not grow up in Oakland. They should have done research on upward social mobility in Oakland and restricted based upon that. But I guess that's too much work," the person wrote. (Related: Covid squatters take advantage of California’s eviction moratorium by refusing to vacate home after selling to cash buyer.)
"Poor is poor. Being poor and white sucks, you may not get locked up for trivial shit like our dark skinned brothers and sisters but it’s no secret that White Privilege always has and always will require a certain shade of green to your name," another user wrote.
The group funding the program, Oakland Resilient Families, said they got the idea from Schaaf, who pledged last year to bring a guaranteed-income scheme to Oakland (so she could hook as many residents as possible on government dependence -- and then control them. 'You don't wanna wear a mask? Well, then, we'll just cut off your check this month...').
Schaaf said she got her idea from city officials in Stockton, California, which began paying out $500-per-month checks in 2019 to families earning under $46,000 (how many illegal aliens are getting that money?).
"According to the Equity Indicators Report, 2016 median household income for white families were $110,000, for Asians $76,000, Latinos had a median household income of $65,000, and African-Americans just $37,500," the Daily Mail reported.
But that means nothing; poor people, regardless of skin color, are poor, and thus, programs aimed at helping poor people should be colorblind.
Unless, of course, you live in California, where two things are growing: Homelessness, and liberal intolerance for whites.
Still, if the black families slated to begin receiving monthly checks were smart, they would turn them down. The entire concept of a "Basic Universal Income," all paid for with "OPM" -- other people's money -- is designed not to lift people out of poverty but to enslave them under government edicts designed to force people to live a certain way.
Americans who disagree should push back, in large part by changing or getting out of failing states like California, which used to be a beacon of freedom and opportunity -- until Democrats ruined it.
