16 UPenn swimmers call for transgender Lia Thomas to be banned from women's competition
Democrats are swinging so far to the left that they are now destroying the progress they made over the past several decades in terms of ensuring equal rights for women, especially in sports.
Because the party's primary purpose is to subdivide our multi-ethnic, multi-racial country into 'aggrieved' groups and sub-groups to win votes -- rather than win them with superior ideas and policy positions, like Republicans -- Democrats have latched onto the latest cultural fad: LGBTQ and transgenderism, which they essentially created out of whole cloth.
Only, the party's transgender lunacy is beginning to backfire, even in places where liberalism is predominant: Ivy League schools.
For months a 'transgender' male, Lia Thomas, who is now identifying as a female and has undergone some hormone transition therapy, has been ripping to shreds prior women's swimming records at the University of Pennsylvania. But some of the team's all-
real-female members are fed up with the situation because not only are they losing out on potential opportunities, but they are watching the destruction of women's sports (that Democrats used to promote and push for, once upon a time).
In a recent letter to the school, 16 of Thomas' real female teammates have appealed to UPenn's collegiate directors not to allow 'her' to compete in next month's meets, citing the "biology of sex" as creating an "unfair advantage."
"We fully support Lia Thomas in her decision to affirm her gender identity and to transition from a man to a woman. Lia has every right to live her life authentically," the swimmers argued in a letter sent to the school and to Ivy League officials last week,
according to the Washington Post. "However, we also recognize that when it comes to sports competition, that the biology of sex is a separate issue from someone's gender identity."
"Biologically, Lia holds an unfair advantage over competition in the women's category, as evidenced by her rankings that have bounced from #462 as a male to #1 as a female," the anonymous swimmers added. "If she were to be eligible to compete against us, she could now break Penn, Ivy, and NCAA Women's Swimming records; feats she could never have done as a male athlete."
Thomas, born a male, of course, swam as a male competitor for the first three years at UPenn and did not do nearly as well.
In their letter, the female swimmers also charge that Thomas is taking away "competitive opportunities" from them, like being able to compete at tournament-level meets.
The Washington Examiner adds:
USA Swimming and the NCAA both adjusted their transgender participation policies in January, with the NCAA allowing individual sports to determine whether transgender individuals could compete beginning in March. USA Swimming will require transgender athletes to prove that their "physical development" as biologically male won't give them a competitive advantage.
Few, if any, schools will have the guts to do the right thing and protect women's sports because they are liberal, hypocrites and cowards. But some have stepped up.
In an interview in late December on Fox News’
Tucker Carlson Tonight,
Cynthia Millen said she stepped down from officiating USA Swimming meets after 30 years because she said she can’t just sit and watch as female swimmers are “thrown under the bus” by “biological” male competitors.
“The fact is that swimming is a sport in which bodies compete against bodies. Identities do not compete against identities,” Millen said. “Men are different from women, men swimmers are different from women, and they will always be faster than women.
“It’s horrible,” Millen told guest host Sean Duffy. “The statement for women then is you do not matter, what you do is not important, and little girls are going to be thrown under the bus by all of this.”
The political left
is literally destroying what remains of Western civilization. It's time for those of us who want to save and preserve our culture to break away and go do it.
