Left-wing personalities enraged by Musk's tweet to vote for a Republican Congress

A day before the midterm elections, new Twitter CEO Elon Musk urged "independent-minded voters" to support Republicans to create a political balance that "curbs the worst excesses of both parties." "Shared power curbs the worst excesses of both parties, therefore I recommend voting for a Republican Congress, given that the presidency is Democratic," Musk tweeted. In a follow-up tweet, he said: "Hardcore Democrats or Republicans never vote for the other side, so independent voters are the ones who actually decide who's in charge." He kept at it on Election Day. "I've been under unfair and misleading attack for some time by leading Democrats," Musk wrote. Musk's tweets did not sit well with various left-wing personalities. Media and democracy program director at progressive advocacy group Common Cause Yosef Getachew commented: "Usually tech CEOs try to play both sides. It's not clear where his motives are with this." Musk called for "shared power" but people from the Left resorted to a "Twitterstorm" to air their anger toward the site owner. MSNBC's Mehdi Hasan insisted Musk was either "out of his lane again, and doesn't understand how Congress works," adding, "these are his actual politics and he is totally fine with climate deniers in charge of Congress and blocking action on climate change, and empowering Marjorie Taylor Greene in the process." Longtime Democrat strategist and former Democratic National Committee advisor Adam Parkhomenko replied explicitly to Musk's tweet with: "Hey Elon, go f*ck yourself." Another Democrat supporter, radio host and CNN contributor Dean Obeidallah, said that Musk appears to have "bought Twitter to help the GOP win elections. Given his deal was funded by banks from foreign nations, the purchase of Twitter was simply a vessel for foreign nations to influence our elections," including a #LockElonUp hashtag in her post. Former President Barack Obama's ex-adviser David Axelrod said: "I guess this tweet means that if the @GOP wins control of Congress tomorrow, the new owner of Twitter will automatically endorse the Democratic candidate for president in '24." Journalist Rolan Martin also opined Musk doesn't care about democracy. "To independent-minded voters: @elonmusk happily took taxpayer money, known as corporate welfare, to become a billionaire," he said and insisted to "reject his advice and vote against ALL @GOP candidates that stand with MAGA and Donald Trump."

Musk immediately fires executives responsible for banning Trump from Twitter

On the first day of his takeover, Musk fired several Twitter executives, including the ones responsible for booting Trump off the platform and shadow-banning conservatives. He later tweeted "the bird is freed," seemingly referring to Twitter, which has a blue bird as its logo. (Related: Musk wastes no time, fires top Twitter execs most responsible for banning conservatives.) Chief Executive Officer Parag Agrawal, Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal, among others, were escorted out of the company's San Francisco office. According to Musk, he would bring back Trump on the platform even though the former president already said he doesn't intend to return to the platform. Trump was banned from the site in the wake of the Jan. 6, 2021 riot on the U.S. Capitol. "I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump, I think that was a mistake," Musk commented. "I would reverse the perma-ban. … Banning Trump from Twitter didn't end Trump's voice, it will amplify it among the right and this is why it's morally wrong and flat-out stupid." Trump said he is glad Twitter is now in "sane hands." However, he announced that he plans to stay on his own social network Truth Social – despite having tens of millions more followers on Twitter. "Truth Social has become somewhat of a phenomena," Trump wrote back in October. "I am very happy that Twitter now is in safe hands and will no longer be run by radical left lunatics and maniacs that truly hate our country. I LOVE TRUTH."
