Trump warns of WWIII, blames Biden for drone strike on troops in Jordan and execution of four people in Iran

Former President Donald Trump warned of World War III and criticized President Joe Biden's administration after Iran executed four alleged Israeli spies and a Tehran-backed militia in Iraq launched a drone strike that killed three members of the United States Armed Forces. The drone attack on Saturday, Jan. 27, near the border between Syria and Jordan killed three U.S. service members and injured 34 others. This is the first time American troops in the Middle East have been killed in an attack by adversaries since the outbreak of Israel's war with Hamas in October 2023. Biden blamed "radical Iran-backed militant groups" for the attack and, in turn, vowed to continue the fight against terrorism. "While we are still gathering the facts of this attack, we know it was carried out by radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq... We will carry on their commitment to fight terrorism," said Biden. "And have no doubt, we will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner [of] our choosing." "We absolutely condemn what has happened over the past couple of days," Biden continued. "My thoughts are with all of those impacted, those who lost their lives, their families and those that are injured. We stand resolutely with our allies to bring stability and peace to the region. And that's what we'll continue to work towards." But shortly after the attack, Iran executed four Iranian nationals accused of spying for Israel. According to the state-owned Islamic Republic News Agency, the men – identified as Mohammad Faramarzi, Mohsen Mazloum, Vafa Azarbar and Pejman Fatehi – were accused of plotting to sabotage a Defense Ministry factory involved in the production of missiles and defense equipment in the city of Isfahan in 2022. Iranian authorities claim that these four individuals were employed by Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, who orchestrated the entire operation and provided training to the four individuals in an African country before they were smuggled into Iran. The execution was carried out following the affirmation of the death sentences by the Supreme Court, initially handed down in September 2023 by another court. The specific method of execution was not disclosed, but Iran usually hangs those condemned to death.

Trump says attack would never have happened under his watch

In response to these escalating tensions, Trump wrote on his account on the social media platform Truth Social: "This attack would NEVER have happened if I was President — not even a chance. Just like the Iranian-backed Hamas attack on Israel would never have happened, the War in Ukraine would never have happened, and we would right now have Peace throughout the World. Instead, we are on the brink of World War 3." Trump expressed his disappointment in the series of events on his Truth Social account. He pointed the finger at Biden, blaming his "weakness and surrender" for the deaths of three U.S. troops and accusing him of leaving the world "on the brink of World War 3." (Related: World War 3 could be imminent as Israel-Hamas war escalates, experts warn.) “Our country cannot survive with Joe Biden as Commander in Chief. This brazen attack on the United States is yet another horrific and tragic consequence of Joe Biden’s weakness and surrender,” Trump wrote. Moreover, Trump argued that Biden's approach to Iran was responsible for the security lapse. "Three years ago, Iran was weak, broke and totally under control," Trump wrote. "Thanks to my Maximum Pressure policy, the Iranian Regime could barely scrape two dollars together to fund their terrorist proxies. Then Joe Biden came in and gave Iran billions of dollars, which the Regime has used to spread bloodshed and carnage throughout the Middle East," he added.
