Netanyahu goes rogue, says IDF will invade Rafah "safe zone" despite presence of one million refugees sheltering there

An area in southern Gaza where Israel had previously told Palestinian civilians to flee for safety after Israel Defense Forces (IDF) invaded northern Gaza is now under attack by Israel. Rafah, a relatively large city in Gaza that borders Egypt, is the next location of Israel's ongoing ethnic cleansing operation, even though it is a designated "safe zone" where upwards of 1.4 million Palestinian civilians, most of them refugees from other areas of Gaza that have since been razed by the IDF – there are currently about one million refugees from other areas of Gaza in Rafah – now live. Officials at the United Nations (UN) warn that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's planned ground offensive in Rafah will add an "additional layer of endless tragedy" for the hundreds of thousands of suffering Palestinians who have taken refuge there, many of them in makeshift tents since their homes were destroyed. In a post on X, Netanyahu, paid lip service to humanitarian concerns by stating that he has instructed Israel's military to draw up "a combined plan for evacuating the population and destroying" what he described as "four Hamas battalions." Where all these people will go, though, remains unknown. According to UNRWA head Philippe Lazzarini – UNRWA provides aid to Palestinian civilians – there is "growing anxiety and panic" throughout Rafah with Palestinians having "absolutely no idea where to go after Rafah" since it is the last stop in Gaza for them to flee for safety. "Any large-scale military operation among the population can only lead to an additional layer of endless tragedy that's unfolding," Lazzarini said somberly. U.S. has blood on its hands

None of Israel's relentless bloodshed in Gaza would even be possible were it not for U.S. taxpayers whose hard-earned money is routinely funneled into Israel's coffers to "bless" the Jewish ethnostate. And even the U.S. is now warning against Netanyahu's murderous plans for Rafah, which it cannot be emphasized enough was an Israeli-designated "safe zone" for Palestinian refugees. A quick refresher in case you forgot: After October 7, Israel told Palestinians in northern Gaza to flee south for safety. After they did this, Israel proceeded to bomb southern Gaza, driving civilians all the way to Gaza's border with Egypt in Rafah where they now have nowhere else to flee for safety. Much like the Israelites of the Old Testament who were driven to the edge of the Red Sea by their enemies, it will now take nothing short of a miracle for the remaining embattled Palestinians in Gaza to escape what the Israeli war machine has planned for them in the coming days. "Any major military operation in Rafah at this time, under these circumstances, with more than a million – probably more like a million and a half Palestinians who are seeking refuge [there] – without due consideration for their safety would be a disaster," warned U.S. National Security Council (NSC) spokesman John Kirby, further describing Israel's offensive as "over the top." President Biden echoed Kirby's concerns, warning in a press conference at the White House that "there are a lot of innocent people who are starving, a lot of innocent people who are in trouble and dying, and it's got to stop." Netanyahu insists that the Israeli forces heading to Rafah will be "providing the civilian population safe passage to safe zone," however it remains undisclosed precisely where these alleged safe zones are located, not to mention the fact that moving that many people to safety that quickly is an impossibility. "Expanded air and ground operations into Rafah will unleash a humanitarian nightmare in Gaza surpassing even the horror of the past four months," warned aid organization Mercy Corps in a statement.
