Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon KILL TWO CHILDREN

Israeli forces have targeted several "infrastructure" sites in southern Lebanon, killing two children in the process. The strikes hit the villages of Najjiriyeh and Addousiyeh, both located south of the coastal city of Sidon, approximately 18 miles from the Israeli border – deeper into Lebanon than the typical strikes in this region. Israel claims the airstrikes were focused on compounds that were part of Hezbollah's aerial defense system, which are considered a threat to Israeli aircraft. Hezbollah reported the death of one of its fighters during the attacks but did not provide details about the circumstances or the fighter's role within the organization. The strikes also killed two civilians, identified as Syrian children. While the targeted sites were described as "terrorist infrastructure," many of the buildings hit in the strikes have unclear associations with Hezbollah. (Related: WAR FREAKS: Israeli warplanes strike villages in southern Lebanon.) Reports indicated that a pickup truck and an orchard were also struck. In previous incidents, civilian homes have often been labeled as infrastructure. In response to the deaths, Hezbollah launched approximately 75 projectiles at the small Israeli settlement of Kerem Ban Zimra and Tsnobar logistical base in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The strike on Kerem Ban Zimra reportedly wounded at least two Israelis. These attacks followed a drone strike the previous day against the Lebanese town of Qana, which hit a vehicle near a funeral procession, killing two people, one of whom was identified by rescuers as linked to Hezbollah.

Israeli forces have been hitting alleged enemy targets in Lebanon

Last month, the Israeli military reported hitting dozens of targets in southern Lebanon, while the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah claimed to have fired dozens of rockets at an Israeli border village as the conflict escalated. Israeli military officials stated that the strikes in the area of Aita al-Shaab, approximately two miles inside the Lebanese border, targeted around 40 sites, including storage facilities and weapons depots extensively used by Hezbollah forces. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, following an operational meeting at the military’s Northern Command, declared, “There is continuous offensive action by [Israeli military] forces in all of southern Lebanon as well as in other parts of Lebanon. The operational results are very impressive.” Gallant also asserted that Israeli forces had killed half of Hezbollah’s commanders in southern Lebanon, a claim disputed by the group. A Hezbollah official dismissed the assertion as “completely worthless,” stating that the group regularly published details of its members killed in action. Israeli strikes have reportedly resulted in the deaths of approximately 250 Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon since October, with an additional 30 killed in Israeli strikes in neighboring Syria. The hostilities have also claimed the lives of over 70 civilians in Lebanon and 18 individuals, including soldiers and civilians, in Israel. Hezbollah held a funeral for senior commander Hussein Azkoul, killed earlier in the week by Israeli forces. Speaking at the funeral, senior Hezbollah politician Hassan Fadlallah praised Azkoul for his role in developing Hezbollah’s drone and missile capabilities and escalating the battle with Israel. The Israeli strikes followed a drone attack by Hezbollah on Israeli military bases north of the Israeli coastal city of Acre, marking the deepest strike yet in the ongoing hostilities. In response to Israeli strikes on Lebanese villages, including one that killed at least two people, including an 11-year-old girl, Hezbollah fired Katyusha rockets on the community of Shomera. While the recent hostilities mark the most severe escalation in years, the violence has primarily occurred in areas near the Israeli-Lebanese border, with occasional Israeli strikes penetrating deeper into Lebanon’s eastern Bekaa Valley.
