The Trump campaign
has alleged that an opinion poll rigged its questions in such a way that the answers end up favoring Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee.
The aforementioned survey conducted by
CBS News and YouGov polled 3,092 voters from July 30 to Aug. 2. Its results found that Harris had a one-point lead over former President Donald Trump, 50 percent to 49 percent. Moreover, the survey also suggested that Harris and Trump were tied with 50 percent support each in battleground states.
But Trump's campaign team decried the results, saying that the poll's results stemmed from "a methodological decision allowing ideology to change significantly while maintaining weights on age, partisanship and race to make the survey appear not to have been manipulated."
Brian Hughes, senior advisor to the Trump campaign, said: "The fake news media continue to help dangerously liberal Kamala hide her record of economic failure and soft-on-crime policies. Now, as this analysis shows they'll even put a finger on the scale of polling to inflate results for her. This analysis is why the American people are seeing through it and will not allow this national gaslighting campaign to win." (Related:

Poll questions are indeed framed to favor Harris
The questions in the poll
low-key favor Harris upon close scrutiny.
For instance, 70 percent of women registered voters overwhelmingly believe Harris would advocate for their interests, compared to the 43 percent who believe in Trump. This is expected given that Harris is a woman. The same goes for the choice of president among genders. Harris leads Trump among women by six points and Trump leads Harris among men by the same six percent.
The poll also shows that 81 percent of likely Black voters will support a Democratic candidate, compared to 18 percent who would support a Republican candidate. Additionally, 80 percent of registered Black voters believe Harris' policies would help Black people. Voters believe Harris will represent the interests of everyone, including those of Black people.
This, in turn, resulted in 68 percent of registered voters agreeing that the country is ready to elect a Black woman as president. Again, these answers are expected given that Harris is a person of color. In other words, these "manipulative survey questions" all lead to voters choosing Harris over Trump.
Despite this attempt to rig public sentiment against Trump and in favor of Harris, the former president still maintains a significant advantage in areas where he has traditionally excelled. Many voters believe they would be financially better off under Trump and that his policies would more effectively reduce border migration.
