Former President Donald Trump has promised to "make America affordable again" during a speech in New Jersey. He made this vow during an Aug. 15 speech outside the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster. During the event, he discussed the effects of food inflation on American consumers while standing next to a table with grocery products like coffee, cereal, bagels and bacon. According to him, average Americans confront severely high prices on normal expenditures. "Grocery prices have skyrocketed," said Trump, citing steep costs for bread, butter, baby formula, eggs and other groceries as examples. "We will stop inflation. We will make America affordable again." The former president took questions for the media after his speech. One reporter asked about Vice President Kamala Harris' plan to have the federal government prevent price gouging. According to Trump, it "probably can't [be done] legally" and warned that the move could have unintended consequences. "She wants price controls – and if they worked, I'd go along with [those] too. But they don't work; they actually have the exact opposite impact and effect. [Price controls lead] to food shortages, rationing, hunger [and] dramatically more inflation." Trump also promised to "stop costly supply chain disruptions." Aside from this, he mentioned that housing costs are also overpriced for average consumers. To address this housing issue, Trump stated his plan to distribute tracts of federal land for housing construction. "We desperately need housing for people who can't afford what's going on now," he added, promising to "take off some of the restrictions and regulations."

Trump plans to make ENERGY affordable

During the same speech, Trump also promised that his administration would "immediately bring [energy] prices down" by growing oil and natural gas drilling. According to him, the policies of the Biden administration have reduced domestic energy production, resulting in higher energy prices. The real estate mogul implied that fossil fuels are the only answer to America's energy demand, expanding that to natural gas fracking. He also noted that fracking would be helpful to the state of Pennsylvania. "You have to frack," said Trump. "We need the energy, and Pennsylvania needs the jobs, but Pennsylvania needs the energy also." According to NTD News, the U.S. hit a 13,300-barrel record for crude oil production recently, up from the past 13,000-barrel record attained in February 2020 under the Trump administration. The data indicates that oil production has gradually grown after a slump during the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. While Trump expressed support for renewable energy – describing himself as a "big fan of solar" – he expressed concerns over its impact on the environment. The former president talked about bird fatalities caused by wind farms, noting that a similar instance could happen to plant life if the U.S. creates huge solar farms in the desert. "Look, I'm all for clean energy. I want clean water. I want clean air. But you can't destroy your country over it." Moreover, Trump said he would reverse the Biden administration policy of producing progressively higher emission standards for gas vehicles, usually cited as the "electric vehicle (EV) mandate." He said that even with the best EVs on the market, America will still be dependent on electrical plants to power them.
