RFK Jr. secures a spot on the North Carolina presidential election ballot with 10,000 signature surplus

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has finally secured a place on the North Carolina presidential election ballot after collecting 23,000 signatures – exceeding the official requirement by an impressive margin of 10,000 signatures. According to a press release published by his campaign team on April 1, Kennedy successfully gained ballot access in North Carolina, a crucial battleground state with 16 electoral votes, growing the number of states he has ballot access into five, the others being Hawaii, Nevada, New Hampshire and Utah. The independent candidate strategically formed new political parties in several states, such as the "We the People Party" in California, Delaware, Hawaii, Mississippi and North Carolina, as well as the "Texas Independence Party" in Texas, to gain ballot access under lower signature thresholds. But his team is still pushing to collect 60 percent more signatures than required in each state just in case he has to fend off questions regarding the validity of his candidacy and the political parties supporting his campaign, especially from both Democrats and Republicans concerned that his participation as a major third-party candidate could dilute their vote shares. To further broaden his appeal, Kennedy recently named Silicon Valley lawyer, entrepreneur and investor Nicole Shanahan as his running mate, allowing him to open his campaign to 19 additional states for the signature-collection process. Naming a running mate is a requirement for independent and third-party candidates who want to gain ballot access in these states. This requirement needs to be fulfilled before even starting the signature collection process. Meanwhile, American Values 2024, a super PAC supporting Kennedy's presidential bid, has confirmed that it has collected enough valid signatures to get on the ballot in four other states – Arizona, Georgia, Michigan and South Carolina. Since RFK Jr. officially announced his independent candidacy for president on Oct. 9, he has made it his goal for his name to appear on the general election ballot in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. (Related: RFK Jr. to continue his presidential run as an INDEPENDENT candidate after ditching rigged DNC.) "I will be on the ballot in all 50 states and the District of Columbia in November! It's a challenging system running outside the lines of Republican or Democrat channels, but I wouldn't have it any other way. It's clear Americans want to break free from the two-party system," RFK Jr. posted on X back in February.

Kennedy campaign threatens legal action over Nevada ballot access dispute

The signature collection process is facing legal disputes in other states, notably in Nevada. On March 5, shortly after Kennedy announced that his campaign had successfully gotten ballot access in Nevada, the office of the Nevada Secretary of State, headed by Democrat Cisco Aguilar, claimed that the campaign had failed to "designate a nominee for vice president" on its petition forms, and thus is ineligible for ballot access. In response, Paul Rossi, the ballot access attorney for the Kennedy campaign, provided an email exchange with a staffer from Aguilar's office, wherein the staffer explicitly stated that there is no need to list a vice presidential candidate in the petition forms. Rossi also showed proof that the office had approved the campaign's petition on Jan. 9. "After successfully collecting all of the signatures we need in Nevada, the DNC Goon Squad and their lackeys in the Nevada Secretary of State’s office are outright inventing a new requirement for the petition with zero legal basis," said Rossi. "The Nevada statute does not require the VP on the petition. The petition does not even have a field for a VP on it." The office apologized for the misinformation but still insisted that Kennedy must adhere to the law. This could potentially force RFK Jr. to restart the signature-collection process with Shanahan listed on the ticket, but this would just delay their ballot access. In turn, RFK Jr. now threatens the state with filing a legal motion for misinformation. Find more stories about RFK Jr. and his presidential campaign at RFKJr.news.
